Fun at Fenway watching the Red Sox!
This weekend we took the kiddos to their first baseball game and Fenway experience. Thanks to Brit, who bought us the tickets as our family Christmas present, we were able to watch the Red Sox take on the Seattle Mariners. L was super excited all week, as she has developed a love for the Red Sox; I think it is mostly due to her Dad’s love of the team. We dug out all of our hats and off we went to Boston!
The first thing to think about when attending a Red Sox game is parking. Parking next to Fenway can costs at least $60 and often is a nightmare to get out of. Since Brit is a big fan and has season tickets, she knows the ins and outs of Fenway and she let us in on a little secret – park over by the Museum of Fine Arts. She has lots of patience and always finds street parking over there; we always park in the MFA parking garage. It’s about a 10 minute walk through a park to get to Fenway and you avoid much of the gridlock after the game. If you’re interested in parking in the garage, check out this information that the MFA has on its website about Red Sox parking.
Because we were sitting in the bleachers, we entered at the back of the park, where they even have a special kids’ entrance! The line for this was much shorter than the “adult” entrance next to it, so it definitely was a nice perk!
You have to go through a metal detector and bag search on your way in and I did have to take Little Man out of the Tula so they could check it. You are allowed to bring in 1 – 16oz bottle of water per person, so definitely do that if you can since a bottle of water in the park is $5! Once we made it through security, we were off to find our seats!
I love walking into Fenway and seeing that pop of green that exists in the middle of the city. L’s eyes were huge as she took in the park and she was thrilled to be inside of something that she’d seen so often on TV.
After watching a few innings and enjoying their first Fenway Franks (which they loved – and I’m sure they will never again eat the organic, uncured hot dogs I buy…), the kiddos needed to move around a bit, so we took them down under the grandstand to explore. Our timing was perfect because Tessie was taking pictures with kiddos! Little Man ran right to her, and L never stopped smiling!
After meeting Tessie, we explored the Kids Club – it’s located behind Bleacher Section 43. You need kiddos to gain entrance and inside is a huge air conditioned room with coloring, stickers, a magician, a ballon animal maker, and tables. You can buy ice cream in there, as well as beer, and the lines were much shorter than at the concession stands. After cooling off, we went in search of “My 1st Game” pins; you can get these at the Fan Services desk.
The pin, along with a big sticker we found in the Kids Club, definitely made L’s outfit complete…
Little Man did surprisingly well at the game! He enjoyed watching the ball, and the birds, and eagerly awaited the hot dog vendor. He was quite disappointed after finishing his first hot dog to not instantly get another one; he said “more hot dog” for about an inning and a half…
Both kids had a blast singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and “Sweet Caroline” and danced to all of the Red Sox players’ walk up music. The rain held off and the kiddos were able to experience their first in-person Red Sox victory. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!
I hope that your family enjoys this adventure as much as mine did!
